Narooma Booma South Coast NSW.
This was a fantastic event on some of the most fun roads I have driven on. It
was only luck that got us home.
It was an absolute top event for us and had a great time.
Firstly huge thanks to all the officials. What a happy friendly bunch
they were. Big thanks also to Joan Vaugh for helping Kristy out at the
regroup.
Once we got over the Brantz (tripmeter) debacle, which turned out to be
a faulty probe, life was good again (still don’t understand how that can
cause the speed to race up and down).
Got down on the Friday night and managed to wake up late with time for a
casual walk along the beach. Not a bad start at all.
On the Halda (another name for trip meter - old school) check I notice a
strange bump in the driver side only to later find out that the drivers
side shock insert was ruined. Not to worry.
Stage 1 – was held up by someone blocking the road only 2km in. They
tell me he is a nice guy and I should feel sorry for him. I tried and I
kind of did, but I also realised that if I made it 3k in, then I
technically wouldn’t come last .
(Sorry Rob, glad no one was hurt and hope the car is easily repairable).
Well, we made it to the spectator point and almost stalled in very
unspectacular fashion. Meanwhile my wife was at the spectator point
generally enjoying herself and I think talked Ray and “Tapeworm ???”
into give us a cheer as we came through. Didn’t help much, but thanks
anyway.
Won’t bore you with a stage by stage description, fair to say that we
loved that tight twisty stage that we did twice (once each way). The one
with all the overhanging bushes and super twisty (what was that one
called?). It’s the most favourite stage yet, even managed to beat a few
people (rare for us).
Highlights:
Byron and Matt for just generally being hilarious.
The guy in the mask on one of the road closures.
Carl Stewart – for the brilliant count down on stage 3 (it doesn’t
getter any better than that).. (had
to be there).
Low lights (but not that bad).
Deep water crossing, fan managed to suck itself onto the radiator and
loose some blades (the rest came off over the next two stages). And
running on 2 cylinders up the hill after the creek. How do you cross
creeks?? Fast or slow. We tried slow, didn’t work real good.
The oil catch can pumping out smoke at an alarming rate on the last two
stages(yet to check that one out).
Cruised through the last stage at transport stage, but managed to
finish.
Couldn’t hang around at the club as the family had worn themselves out.
Congrats to Ryan Price for winning Novice – better look out at Oberon we
were only 20 minutes behind you.
We are still slow, but not at slow as before. Still having a great time
and Narooma goes on the list of one the favourites.
Thanks to;
My brilliant Nav Kristy
My wife and family for always coming along, supporting and servicing.
Mini Car club.
SKDAC folks for always lending a hand and giving a cheer.
